My dearest friend, Kylee, came to visit over the weekend. Ever since she left Houston nearly three years ago we have had at least one girls weekend every year. It has worked out wonderfully and we both look forward to it. It's so nice to get a little break from our kids and we can just have some fun.
Usually we craft quite a bit during our girls weekends but since she had never been to Upstate NY we turned it into a little sight-seeing trip. I took her to some of the church sites and to Niagara. (No, I am not sick of Niagara yet.) This is the first time I have been since we moved here that all the attractions have been open. The ice and snow has finally melted and it is tourist season. We went on the Maid of the Mist boat ride up to the Horseshoe Falls and down to the Cave of the Winds. Let me just say, it is not a mist at all...It is like you are standing outside in a rainstorm with gusty winds. No wonder they give a free poncho. When we got our ponchos for Cave the Winds, we couldn't figure out why they also gave us some foam sandals to wear. We certainly found out...our shoes would have been soaked. We were standing 10-15 feet from the American Falls. Even though I have now been a few times we both thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Falls.
Main picture is us right before getting on Maid of the Mist.
Two outside pictures are on the Hurricane Deck of Cave of the Winds.
Middle picture is in front of the Alvin Smith home near the Sacred Grove.
In between all the sight-seeing we squeezed in a pedicure, lovely meals, went on a little hunt for NY maple syrup and candy, and enjoyed some down time at the hotel each night watching movies. I was sad to see Kylee leave this morning but I am already looking forward to next year since it will be my turn to go visit her and she is moving soon to a place I have never visited.
Back to reality...
